How To Be More Likable

This post is the result of a question I get asked, a lot! Tim, you understand communication, how can I get people to like me more, to open up and to share more.

Here's the real deal 5 steps to make you more likable to everyone.

  1. Tell them what you love about them. For example, give them a label to live up to. "You are so outgoing", "You are so kind", "You're always on time", "You're a dependable and trustworthy friend". Recognise the talents in others.

  2. Remember the details. Buy a pocket ai. and be accountable for the small stuff. The trip the took last month, their favourite restaurant, the book they said they wanted to read. Now use it. Leverage these details by bringing it up. This shows you care. It shows they matter to you. Because so few people do this you will stand out.

  3. Give them the thing they wanted. Be generous. I don't mean giving them a Ferrari, but I do mean building on the last point. If there was a thing they mentioned it could be a plant, or a event ticket, or a certain bottle of wine. The care you take to get this and gift it to them when they have been promoted at work - shows you care and you are attentive.

  4. Be present and I mean fully present. Ditch your mobile phone. Make eye contact. Be in the conversation. Again really rare. You differentiate yourself because you are fully available.

  5. Make things easy. Take away problems. Lift people up. Have them do the talking and talking specifically about topics that are invigorating, exciting and ambitious. Share in that joy. Be an optimistic life enhancer. Be a shoulder and an ear. Magnify your light by giving them space to share.

Implement these 5 steps next week and see how you change your likability.

Remember you are influencing people all the time, you made someones day who didn't tell you about it, you helped someone feel better, your presence gave someone hope. You are an example to someone you don't even know.

Keep shining.

Best,

Tim
